What Vlekovna is
A chalet at the end of the road
In the westernmost corner of Krkonoše National Park, a forested ridge called Vlčí hřeben rises above the valleys. Beneath it opens a landscape of three valleys. In one of them, at the end of a gravel forest track, a ski lift once had its top station.
It's a chalet now. Two bedrooms, a living room with a fireplace, a full kitchen, a bathroom and a separate second toilet. Outside a terrace, a fire pit and spruces.
It sleeps six. We rent it as a whole — whether you come as two or six.
Four things that hold true
-
Two bedrooms
A double bed and an extra bed in each. Base capacity 4 adults, comfortable for 4 adults and 2 children.
-
Fireplace and fire pit
A fireplace inside, a fire pit behind the chalet. Firewood is included and never runs out.
-
The whole place
The price is for the chalet, not per person. You'll never share the house with strangers.
-
Quiet
The nearest building is behind the forest. The nearest road is kilometres away.
Vlekovna in numbers
Under two hours from Prague. And then just the quiet.
The one thing to sort out first
The last one hundred and thirty metres are on foot
A gravel forest track leads to the chalet. By car you can drive to about 130 metres from the house, where you park. In winter, when there's snow, you park at a cleared area about 550 metres away — or shorten the walk by taking a trail down the slope.
The last stretch is on foot — downhill to the chalet, uphill back to the car. In summer it's a few minutes; in winter up to ten, even with luggage.
We won't pretend it's convenient. It's the one reason you hear nothing but the forest in the morning. Whoever gets here has the place to themselves.
When to come
Vlekovna in four seasons
Winter
Snow, mist, the fireplace lit from morning. A sledding slope by the door. Cross-country tracks are a seven-to-ten-minute drive, ski slopes a little further.
Spring
Last snow next to the first grass. The quietest weeks of the year — in April there is no one here.
Summer
The fire pit, the terrace, long evenings. Four-night minimum, because two days is not worth the drive.
Autumn
Mist sits in the valley until ten. Then it lifts and across the Vranský potok valley you see Na Vršku. The best season, and no one knows.
The filter we chose
Who Vlekovna is for
For couples who want to be alone. For families with children who can manage a few hundred metres on foot. For hikers and cross-country skiers. For anyone who wants two days of nowhere to go and no one to hear.
And who it isn't for
We'd rather say this up front
Access is not step-free and you won't get through with a pram. We have one bathroom (and a separate second toilet). No sauna, no hot tub, no ski slope out front. The nearest shop is five kilometres away. Parties, loud groups and stays with a dog are not possible here.
If that's what you're looking for, there are hundreds of better places in the Krkonoše and we'll gladly help. If none of it bothers you, we might be exactly what you're looking for.
